CSS Soil Risk Quotients

To assess the ecological risk, risk quotients were calculated using the pesticide concentrations that were measured in soil samples collected in the CSS. Risk quotients were calculated by dividing the concentration of each pesticide in soil by its corresponding NOEC (No Observed Effect Concentration) for earthworms.

The risk quotients from all pesticides in a sample were summed to give the cumulative risk quotient (∑RQ), displayed in the figures below. In the first figure, each point represents one sample, and the red line represents the safety threshold of 0.2 for earthworms. In the second figure, the percentage of samples regarding their risk category, to highlight the proportion of samples that exceeded the threshold values (in red and dark red). Please note that the proportion of samples with a risk quotient of zero is also shown in this figure.
